Shibu Soren‘s Health Update: JMM Chief Hospitalized in Ranchi

Ranchi, Jharkhand – Shibu Soren, the executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was admitted to Medica Hospital in Ranchi on January 26, 2024, due to pneumonia. The 79-year-old veteran politician is currently under observation and receiving treatment. Doctors have stated his condition is stable but requires close monitoring.

Soren, a prominent figure in Jharkhand politics, has served as the Chief minister of the state on three separate occasions – from December 2000 to March 2002, August 2008 to December 2008, and July 2013 to december 2014. He has been a Member of Parliament representing Dumka constituency multiple times, including his most recent term from 2019 to 2024.

Background on Shibu Soren and the JMM

Shibu Soren, often referred to as ‘Guruji’ by his supporters, founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 1972, advocating for the rights of tribal communities and the creation of a separate Jharkhand state. The JMM played a pivotal role in the statehood movement, and Jharkhand was officially formed in November 2000.

Soren’s political career has been marked by periods of both power and controversy.He faced accusations of corruption and was convicted in a kidnapping and murder case in 2018, later being granted bail.
