ORF Executive Confirms Interest in Hosting Eurovision 2027, Cites Potential Economic Benefits
Vienna, Austria – The Austrian national broadcaster, ORF, is actively considering the possibility of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in 2027, should Austria emerge victorious in the upcoming competition. This potential hosting chance is viewed as a meaningful chance for the ORF, rather than a burden, with the prospect of a repeat win fueling optimism for a accomplished 2027 event.
In a recent interview, an ORF executive expressed enthusiasm for the potential involvement of artists like JJ and Conchita, though no concrete commitments have been made. The executive clarified a previous statement, emphasizing that winning a competition is a cause for celebration. “I never saw it that way,” they stated, referring to the idea that hosting could be a burden. “If you complete and win a competition, the reason for joy is. I consider it a huge chance and less than a burden for the ORF. If we win it again next year, we will also make a great song contest in 2027.”
Addressing concerns about security, notably in light of recent interference incidents at the Salzburg Festival, the ORF acknowledged the heightened importance of security measures. “Unfortunately, security plays a much more crucial role than ten years ago,” the executive noted. “It takes more resources and a lot of professionalism. We are already, even though we still don’t know where the ESC will take place, in intensive exchange with the responsible authorities and security experts. You have to protect all people who come to our event alike. You should be able to spend a great and carefree time here.”
When asked about expectations for Austria’s points in the upcoming competition, the executive remained focused on the performance itself. “I haven’t thought about that yet. I want many points and a great act,” they concluded.
