Reality TV Star Accused of Brutal Assaults

Allegations include choking and being struck with a spatula

A former contestant on a popular reality cooking show is facing serious allegations of assault, with a trial hearing disturbing details of past abuse. The accused, identified as **Mu**, previously appeared on television alongside his wife, **Claudean Uamaki-Mu**, as a “married battler” couple.

Allegations Surface in Court

During the initial day of **Mu**’s trial, a woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, testified about multiple physical assaults she claims **Mu** inflicted upon her when she was underage. One alleged incident involved the use of a metal spatula on her hands and arms.

The complainant recounted further alleged attacks, including being tackled through a wall and pushed down stairs during a birthday celebration. She also described a later incident where **Mu** allegedly became enraged over a forgotten condiment.

“I couldn’t quite stand because he had the back of my hair in his hands. I slipped and fell … he dragged me by my hair,” she said. “I believe he was still calling me a ‘disrespectful c***’.”

She further detailed an incident where **Mu** allegedly threw a burger at her head, grabbed her hair, and choked her against a wall. The court heard she was hyperventilating during the alleged attack, which lasted up to a minute.

Defense Challenges Testimony

During cross-examination, **Mu**’s defense barrister, **Stephen Kissick**, questioned the veracity of the allegations. He suggested the woman might be fabricating or exaggerating her account for personal gain or publicity, claims she vehemently denied.

The complainant insisted her testimony was truthful and that the allegations were not a fabricated narrative. She rejected suggestions she had laughed about the events prior to her police statement, maintaining she was genuinely scared.

The trial was told **Mu** and **Claudean Uamaki-Mu** participated in a 2023 reality TV show. **Uamaki-Mu** had previously pleaded guilty to six charges of common assault in May, receiving a 12-month good behaviour bond and a $1000 recognisance with no convictions recorded.

Trial Continues

The court proceedings are scheduled to resume in October. **Mu** currently remains on bail. Some individuals were observed at the court wearing badges stating, “False allegations destroy lives.”
