As Samsung prepares to release its Galaxy Z Fold7, industry insider Digital Chat Station has provided new details on Huawei’s upcoming foldable, the Mate XT 2. The device, reportedly on its way to market, is poised to be a successor to Huawei’s second-generation tri-folding smartphone.

Tenaa Certification Signals Imminent Release

The purported Mate XT 2 has reportedly achieved Tenaa certification in China, a key regulatory step before a device can be sold. The model number GRL-AL20 has been submitted for approval, following the GRL-Al10 associated with the current Mate XT model. This suggests Huawei is on track to unveil its new foldable before the year concludes.

Kirin 9020 Powers Next-Generation Foldable

Speculation indicates the Mate XT 2 will feature the Kirin 9020 chipset, a processor already found in Huawei’s Mate 70, Pura X, and Pura 80 Ultra. Furthermore, the device is expected to support 5G connectivity and operate on HarmonyOS, consistent with recent Huawei releases in China.

Enhanced Features on the Horizon

Beyond the processor, the Mate XT 2 is anticipated to boast satellite connectivity, a feature increasingly appearing in high-end smartphones. A new 50-megapixel main camera with variable aperture is also rumored, alongside an upgraded periscope camera system. The primary question remains whether Huawei will make this advanced foldable available outside of China.
