Budapest Driver Arrest: Police Chase, Injuries, and Drug Charges

A driver, who had previously been banned from driving, was arrested on July 11 in downtown Budapest along with two associates. The incident, which involved a collision with a taxi, was captured on video.

According to RTL News, the same driver was involved in a hit-and-run incident on the M0 highway a year prior, where he struck three cars while fleeing the police. that case, related to car theft, is still under examination.

The Buda Central District Court ordered the arrest of the three men for one month. On July 11, police attempted to stop their vehicle in Terézváros, but the driver fled, disregarding traffic laws. During the escape, he exceeded the speed limit, ran red lights, and then drove onto a sidewalk, colliding with a taxi. The taxi driver sustained minor injuries, while his passenger was severely injured. All three occupants of the fleeing vehicle abandoned the scene without offering assistance but were apprehended shortly after.Drug tests for all three individuals returned positive results.

The driver, identified as György R. R., faces charges including causing serious bodily injury, failure to provide assistance, and drug use.His two passengers are being prosecuted for failure to provide assistance. All three have criminal records and are currently facing legal proceedings. The court cited a high risk of recidivism as the reason for their arrest, although the risk of evidence tampering was not deemed significant due to confessions from two of the individuals.
