Hamas is expected to reciprocate by releasing hostages, while continuing its attacks on Israeli targets, according to the report. Abbas has been a vocal critic of Hamas, at one point referring to the group’s members as “sons of dogs.”
Abbas has consistently urged the United Nations to establish a free Palestinian state. He has also stated that Hamas is an impediment to this goal.
