The Asbury Park Fire Department and EMTs responded to the scene on the morning of June 25th. According to Asbury Park Fire Chief Kevin Keddy,first responders cut the umbrella stake to facilitate safer transportation to the hospital. The lifeguard underwent surgery to remove the impaled stake and has sence been released from the hospital,with a full recovery expected.
