From Classroom to Cinema: IU Students Premiere Film Theses

Berlin, April 15, 2025 – Aspiring filmmakers from IU International University are set to showcase their thesis projects at a public screening in Berlin, marking the culmination of their dual studies in media design.

A Stage for Emerging Talent

The Filmtheater am Friedrichshain in Berlin will transform into a showcase for young talent on April 26, as students from IU International University’s Media Design program present their final projects. This event highlights the diverse skills and creative visions nurtured through the university’s unique approach to education.

Diverse Projects on Display

Attendees can anticipate a rich program featuring a wide array of moving image projects created by IU students from across Germany. The spectrum includes:

  • Short films
  • Documentaries
  • music videos
  • Commercials and image films
  • Computer-generated animations

The students dedicated over a year to the design and production planning of these projects, with the final films completed as part of their thesis requirements. Their approaches varied significantly, with some undertaking major real film productions employing classic dramaturgy, while others explored experimental forms of expression, motion graphics, and 3D animation.

The Dual Study Advantage

The know-how demonstrated in these projects was cultivated through dual studies at IU locations in cities such as Berlin, Dresden, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg.This model combines academic theory with practical experience in partner companies, allowing students to develop into seasoned professionals over approximately three and a half years. This integrated approach is designed to provide students with a complete understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of media design, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.

Networking and Recognition

The cinema event serves as a ceremonial conclusion to the students’ creative journey and offers a valuable networking possibility. Students, industry professionals, and interested members of the public are invited to engage in discussions and collaborations.A highlight of the event will be a public vote to determine the best project, adding an element of friendly competition and recognition.
