zelensky Warns of Challenging Choice Facing Ukraine Amid Proposed Peace Plan

Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed teh nation, stating Ukraine is at a critical juncture, facing a difficult choice regarding potential peace negotiations. His remarks centered on a 28-point peace plan reportedly presented by the United States, which includes proposals that raise important concerns for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

The plan, as reported by WP.pl, suggests Ukraine commit to foregoing NATO membership, limit its armed forces to 600,000 soldiers, and cede portions of its territory to Russia. Zelenskyy framed this as a stark dilemma: “Either loss of dignity or risk of losing a key partner. Either a difficult 28 points or an extremely difficult winter and further risk. Life without freedom, without dignity, without justice.”

Zelenskyy reaffirmed his commitment to defending Ukraine’s sovereignty, referencing his 2019 oath of office: “I undertake to defend the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine with all my deeds, to defend the rights and freedoms of citizens…to fulfill my duties in the interests of all compatriots and to raise Ukraine’s authority in the world.”

While acknowledging the need for continued cooperation with the United States and other partners, Zelenskyy stated he would not issue a direct response to the plan. He intends to “cooperate calmly with America and all partners,” presenting arguments, seeking alternatives, and ensuring Ukraine is not portrayed as obstructing peace efforts. “this won’t happen,” he asserted.

The Ukrainian President emphasized the importance of European support, stating, “Ukraine is now the only shield separating comfortable European life from Putin’s plans.” He also called for national unity, urging the state, parliament, and goverment to act cohesively during wartime.

Zelenskyy acknowledged the daily hardships endured by Ukrainians – shelling, cold, darkness, and loss of loved ones – and reiterated the desire for an end to the war. He concluded with a powerful analogy: “We are of course made of steel, but any metal, even the strongest, will not withstand it. Don’t forget this. Be with Ukraine, be with our nation.”
