Prague Hostel Draws Ire of Residents, Sparks Petition
Residents of a Prague housing estate are at odds with a large hostel that’s become a source of noise and disturbances. Locals are fed up with the constant commotion and are pushing for change in their neighborhood.
Constant Disturbances Plague Locals
A twenty-five-story hostel in Prague-Malešice is causing distress among nearby residents. Neighbors cite issues like excessive noise, litter, and disruption of the peace. This situation has led to complaints to authorities, as well as requests for help from the hostel management.
“You can’t live here, there is a nonstop restless from the morning. As you wake up, a party of people, children, roars. During the day, one would still bear it, but you can’t open the window because you can’t hear the television when you open it,”
—Lea Bachrona, Resident
A recent survey indicates that over 60% of urban residents report issues with noise pollution (WHO 2024).
Hostel’s Impact and Residents’ Efforts
The hostel, part of an international chain, accommodates up to 1,180 guests and draws a diverse crowd. Despite efforts by hostel management, including security and warning signs, problems persist. Locals are frustrated by the lack of effective solutions.
Limited Options and Future Outlook
Authorities face challenges in addressing the issues, with limited legal options available. The hostel’s manager, Mirce Lechaic, states that the hostel is trying to improve the situation. However, with the tourist season approaching, the concerns of Malešice residents remain.
