Xiaomi Halts Updates for Over 20 Android phones, including Popular Models
Munich, germany – Xiaomi is ending software support for more than 20 Android smartphones, impacting users of devices ranging from the Poco X4 GT to models within the Redmi and MIX series. The rollout of Xiaomi’s new HyperOS 3, beginning October 2025 and extending to March 2026, will bypass these older devices, leaving owners without future feature updates and perhaps vulnerable to security risks.
The move signals a shift in Xiaomi’s update strategy, prioritizing resources for newer devices and potentially disappointing owners of still-powerful hardware. While the company launches HyperOS 3 in phases,a separate plan exists for the chinese market encompassing devices like the MIX-Fold and Redmi-K series. Users on supported models can anticipate new features like “Hyper Island,” but compatibility doesn’t guarantee access to all functionalities. Experts suggest Xiaomi is consolidating advancement efforts, leading to a faster end-of-life for software support on older phones.
Affected users are now urged to consider alternatives, including upgrading to newer Xiaomi models or exploring custom ROM installations to maintain security updates and access new features. The decision ends software support faster than anticipated for many devices, raising concerns about long-term usability and security.
