Wuhan Launches Direct Passenger Flights to Jakarta

April 12, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A direct passenger flight departed Wuhan Tianhe International Airport for Jakarta on Sunday, April 12, 2026, establishing the first direct air connection between the two cities.

Flight MF8683 took off at 4:40 p.m. Carrying more than 150 passengers, bound for Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The service is operated using a Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft and is scheduled to run four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Wuhan Tianhe International Airport stated that the launch of the route fills a previous gap in direct passenger capacity between the capital of Hubei Province and Indonesia’s core city. The addition further expands the network of direct flights linking central China with Southeast Asia.

Regional Aviation Expansion

The establishment of the Wuhan-Jakarta route is part of a broader trend of increased aviation connectivity between Indonesia and provinces in central China. In December 2025, the Hunan Airport Management Group introduced a similar direct passenger service between Jakarta and Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province.

Regional Aviation Expansion

The Changsha-Jakarta service, which began operations on December 22, 2025, operates on a round-trip schedule once per week. Each single trip between the two cities lasts approximately five-and-a-half hours. Hunan airport authorities have planned the introduction of a direct route to Bali to coincide with the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush.

These expanded air links are intended to support existing cultural, trade, and economic ties. Indonesia currently serves as the largest economy within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
