Covid Cases Rising in UK as New Variants Stratus and Nimbus take Hold
London, UK - A concerning increase in covid-19 cases is being reported across the United Kingdom, driven by the growing dominance of two new variants: Stratus and Nimbus. Health officials are urging eligible individuals to get vaccinated as cases climb, mirroring trends seen earlier in the summer.
The rise in infections comes as the UKHSA (UK Health Security Agency) monitors the spread of these variants, wich present with distinct symptoms. While no official Covid restrictions are currently in place, experts are advising caution, especially for vulnerable populations. The situation highlights the ongoing evolution of the virus and the continued need for vigilance.
Experts have noted that the Stratus variant is frequently associated with a hoarse or raspy voice, while Nimbus is thought to cause a severe sore throat, often described as a ‘razor blade sensation’.
The UKHSA advises anyone experiencing symptoms of a respiratory infection, including a high temperature, to avoid contact with vulnerable people and stay at home if possible. For those unable to stay home, the agency recommends the following precautions:
* wear a well-fitting face covering made with multiple layers, or a surgical face mask.
* Avoid crowded places such as public transport, large social gatherings, or anywhere that is enclosed or poorly ventilated.
* Take any exercise outdoors in places where you will not have close contact with other people.
* Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze; wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose and before you eat or handle food; avoid touching your face.
