Wood Sets New 1000 Yard Free Standard; Women’s Swimming Clipped at Swarthmore

Salisbury Women’s Swimming Suffers First Dual Meet Loss in Over a Year,While Teammate Sets New Standard

SWARTHMORE,Pa. – The Salisbury University women’s swimming team saw its⁢ impressive winning streak come to an end Saturday,falling to Swarthmore College,while⁣ freshman standout Julia Wood ⁣established a new program record in the 1000 freestyle.

The loss marks the first in a‌ women’s dual meet ‌for the Sea Gulls as a 148-57‌ defeat against​ Division I UMBC on January ​20,2024. Salisbury had been on​ a 13-meet winning streak,including⁣ a perfect 7-0 record in the 2024-25 season,before Saturday’s⁣ competition. Despite the setback,‍ the⁤ team demonstrated individual brilliance with Wood’s record-breaking performance.

Wood’s time in the 1000 freestyle set a⁣ new Salisbury ‍standard, showcasing the program’s continued development of top-tier talent. The Sea Gulls will look to rebound at the yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va., from November 21-23. last season, salisbury finished second out of eight⁣ teams at the invitational.

Salisbury University competes in NCAA Division III and is a member of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference,with affiliate ⁢memberships⁢ in several other conferences including the New Jersey Athletic Conference (swimming),Coastal Lacrosse Conference,State University of New York ⁤Athletic Conference (field hockey),and Colonial Women’s Golf Conference. The Sea Gulls boast a strong⁣ athletic tradition, having secured 23 team national championships, 24 individual⁢ national ​championships, 206 ‌conference championships, and produced 53 Academic All-Americans‌ across ‍their ‌23 varsity sports.
