Wheelchair Basketball Team Aims for Asian Para Games Podium

The Iranian national women’s wheelchair basketball team is intensifying its preparations for the 2026 Asian Para Games in Nagoya, japan. Head coach Azadeh Sadat Moeini expressed optimism about the team’s medal prospects,citing recent training camps and the addition of new talent to the squad.

The team recently concluded its second preparatory camp and is scheduled to begin its third camp from August 5 to 15. these camps are specifically designed to hone the team’s skills for the Nagoya Games. Prior to the Asian Para Games, Iran will compete in the 2025 IWBF Asia-Oceania Championships in Thailand this November. Moeini views this championship as a crucial stepping stone for the team’s growth and a valuable opportunity to prepare for the larger event in Nagoya.

At the previous Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, Iran secured a fourth-place finish. Moeini is steadfast to improve upon this result,stating,”We are doing our utmost to perform better than in the previous edition. I believe that with our ongoing progress,we can reach the podium in Nagoya.”

Moeini indicated that qualification efforts will commence after the Nagoya games, with participation in the World Championships next year also serving as a pathway to securing a Paralympic spot.
