Penn Women’s Tennis‌ Powers Through Day⁣ Two of ITA Northeast Regional

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s​ tennis team delivered a dominant ⁤performance on Friday, October 10th, at the ITA Northeast Regional, securing victories in both doubles ⁣and singles competition. The Quakers are building⁣ momentum early⁣ in the fall season, showcasing ​thier strength against a competitive field of regional opponents.

penn’s success at the tournament underscores ‍the program’s continued rise within the Ivy League and signals a strong start to the 2024-25 campaign.Advancing players ⁢gain valuable match experience ‍and regional ranking points,crucial for securing future tournament⁢ bids and ‌seeding. The ‍team will continue competing Saturday, seeking to build on this remarkable showing and advance further‌ in the bracket.

In doubles play, three of‍ Penn’s four‍ teams emerged victorious.Maya Urata and Joleen‍ Saw defeated⁣ the saint Francis duo of Tuffs and cunningham with a score of 8-4. Varsha Vedula and ‌Sarah Wang topped Mercyhurst’s Brown and Mercier,​ 8-3, while Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski secured an 8-2 win against Fares and Charles from Stonybrook.

The Quakers continued their winning streak in the⁣ main singles draw,achieving a clean sweep with ⁣five victories. velaga defeated Noemi Babikova of Saint John’s in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Saw ⁣and Vedula also continued​ their strong play, earning wins against‍ Mia Tsoukalas of ⁣LIU and Olivia Dorner of Penn State, respectively. Rounding out ⁣the day, Stojanovski ⁣defeated victoria Papadopoulou of Saint John’s, and Urata bested Sofia Snitko‌ of Drexel.

Penn will return to the courts‌ tomorrow,⁢ October 11th, beginning at 9 a.m. for the third day of the⁢ ITA Northeast Regional, continuing both singles and doubles competition.
