BROOKLYN, NY – A woman died Sunday after falling from a building in Brooklyn while engulfed in flames, according to reports from the Daily News. Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible suicide, wiht a source telling the Daily News the woman “left the roof. He set fire and jumped.”
The incident adds to a disturbing series of self-immolation and fall cases in New York City over the past year, raising concerns about mental health and potential copycat behavior. Investigators with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) are working to determine the official cause of death. A neighbor told investigators that the victim “lived with her partner and left her.” Witnesses described a harrowing scene, with one stating, “Everything was flames and then a strong blow.”
This tragedy follows several similar incidents in the city. In August 2023,a woman miraculously survived a fall from a 10-story building in Chelsea after landing on a truck. In November 2023,a 48-year-old man died after catching fire outside a church in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Perhaps the most widely publicized case occured in April 2024, when Max Azzarello, 37, a self-described “conspiracy theorist,” died after setting himself on fire in a manhattan park near the courthouse where Donald Trump was on trial. in 2018, David Bukel, a 60-year-old lawyer and environmental activist, burned himself to death in a Brooklyn park, leaving a note protesting environmental damage.
