Woman Found Dead in Car Filled with Belongings in Penang
A 38-year-aged woman was found dead inside her car at a petrol station in Paya Terubong, Penang, on Sunday evening, with authorities confirming no signs of foul play.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 7:48 p.m. After receiving reports of a locked Perodua Myvi containing a woman who was unresponsive, according to a statement from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station operations commander, Khairul Annuar Mohd Rahim. Rescuers faced difficulty gaining access to the vehicle due to the interior being heavily cluttered with personal belongings, including clothing, pillows, and boxes. They ultimately had to break the rear passenger window to enter.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A subsequent forensic examination revealed no evidence of criminal activity, leading police to classify the case as a sudden death. The body has been transferred to Hospital Pulau Pinang for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the woman had a history of mental health issues, having received treatment for nearly ten years. Her mother, speaking to reporters, stated that her daughter’s condition resulted in her accumulating a large number of possessions within the vehicle, creating the impression she was living in it, despite continuing to return home daily. “Every day she came home as usual. I was shocked by this incident,” the mother said.
Authorities also discovered an undisclosed quantity of drugs inside the car, though their connection to the woman’s death remains unclear pending the results of the forensic examination and toxicology reports.
Investigations are ongoing.
