Wichita Woman Found Safe After Viral Video Showed Apparent Abduction
WICHITA, Kansas – A 35-year-old woman seen being forcibly dragged from a Wichita home in a widely circulated security camera video has been located and is safe, police announced Tuesday. Teh two-day search, which garnered national attention after the disturbing footage went viral, concluded with the woman found “without significant injuries.”
The incident, captured around 2 a.m. sunday, sparked widespread alarm and a swift examination by the Wichita Police Department. Authorities now believe the event was a case of domestic violence involving the woman’s 22-year-old boyfriend, who was subsequently arrested on charges including aggravated battery strangulation and criminal restraint.
Investigators say the surge of public attention surrounding the video ultimately led to the woman contacting police, identifying herself as the individual depicted in the footage. The video, released by police as part of a public appeal for details, showed a man grabbing the woman from behind and dragging her down a driveway while she screamed.
The 22-year-old boyfriend is currently in custody, and prosecutors will determine weather to file formal charges. The homeowner who captured the video on their security camera told NBC News they almost didn’t review the footage that night.
