WhatsApp users will be able to send reactions with all emojis

Currently, the reaction feature can only be done with 6 emojis.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced in a Facebook post that users WhatsApp will soon have the ability to react to messages with any emoji.

“We’re rolling out the ability to use any emoji as a reaction on WhatsApp,” the CEO wrote before listing some of his favorite emojis The Verge, Monday (11/7/2022).

The news comes just months after WhatsApp added the ability to react with a limited number of just six emojis. Like the previous reaction emoji, this feature can be accessed by long pressing the message you want to respond to. This opens a menu containing the previous six emoji reactions along with a new plus icon.

Tapping on the plus icon will open a menu containing every available emoji, from the standard smiley faces to recent additions like the salute emoji and melt face, and it also includes different variations of skin tones.

The expanded emoji reaction feature has previously been seen in beta versions of the service, including on iOS and Android. This new feature will bring WhatsApp in line with the functionality already available in the Meta Messenger service. The expanded emoji reaction feature is rolling out now and will be available to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
