WhatsApp is enhancing its channel feature with a new tool that allows administrators to solicit private feedback from their followers. This development, first reported by Wabetainfo on july 14, introduces a significant shift from the platform’s previously one-way communication model for channels.
The “Private questions” function, currently available in the beta version of iOS, enables administrators to pose questions to their audience. Crucially, the responses to these questions are visible only to the administrator and can be deleted without notification to the sender.This feature is designed to facilitate a more direct and private exchange of feedback between channel creators and their subscribers, thereby fostering a more interactive surroundings.
To utilize this new capability, users will tap the “attach” button (represented by a paperclip icon), select the “Question” option, compose their query, and send it. While initially rolled out to iOS beta testers, the feature is expected to be made available to all WhatsApp users in a phased manner.
In related news, WhatsApp also provides users with the ability to create their own channels, irrespective of whether they are individuals, businesses, or public figures. This feature is ideal for connecting with others who share similar interests.
To create a WhatsApp channel:
- Navigate to the “updates” tab within the WhatsApp application.
- On Android devices, locate the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. iPhone users will find the menu on the left.
- Select “Create Channel” and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Assign a name to your channel.
- Provide a concise description to inform potential subscribers about the channel’s content.
- Upload a relevant icon to represent the channel.
- Confirm by tapping “Create Channel.”
