Couple Ties the Knot at 35,000 Feet Aboard United Flight
Mid-air Nuptials a Surprise for Fellow Passengers En route to Orlando
A wedding ceremony took place thousands of feet above the ground on a recent United Airlines flight, transforming a routine journey into an unforgettable celebration for passengers.
Airlifted “I Do’s” Inspired by Friendly Rivalry
The unique airborne wedding was initiated by a friend of the groom who had recently married at sea. Prompted by the challenge to outdo the maritime ceremony, the groom, a loyal United customer, accepted the dare.
The couple, planning a honeymoon to Orlando’s theme parks, contacted United Airlines. The airline enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to host the ceremony, decorating the cabin with festive lights and providing a celebratory cake and toast.
“The Wedding Begins Now!”
A flight attendant announced to the cabin, “Please all passengers for attention, now the wedding begins.”
The groom’s brother officiated the ceremony, having been ordained by the Universal Life Church, a common practice in the United States.
Dressed in wedding attire, the couple proceeded to the front of the plane. The officiant then addressed the surprised passengers, “Rodin, friends and fellow travelers who thought you were flying with a normal connection to Orlando, surprise! You officially became guests at a wedding at 10,668 meters above the ground. Don’t worry, no special clothing is necessary and a snack cart will make your wheel in a moment. A unique moment,”
he declared.
Following their vows, the couple was pronounced married. Their first kiss as husband and wife was met with cheers from the passengers, occurring mid-flight between New Jersey and Orlando.
This aerial wedding echoes a growing trend of unique marriage venues. For instance, in 2023, over 2 million couples in the U.S. opted for non-traditional wedding locations, showcasing a desire for personalized and memorable celebrations (The Knot 2023 Real Weddings Study).
