WA Agfood Businesses Forge Trade Connections at China Expo

Chance Knocks as WA Agrifood Businesses⁣ Connect with Buyers at China Expo

SHANGHAI – Western Australian agrifood and beverage ⁢companies have established new trade connections​ at the recent China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, marking a meaningful step for the state’s export ambitions.The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Growth (DPIRD), in collaboration with the‍ Invest and trade​ WA ​China Office, ‌coordinated the ⁢”WA Showcase” display featuring 24 local⁣ brands.

Participating businesses spanned a diverse range of sectors including wine, beverages, seafood, honey, ​horticulture, fibre, apparel, and packaged goods. DPIRD bolstered the delegation’s presence ⁤with a market retail ​tour, targeted business matching sessions, and ‍informative briefings designed to ​foster lasting trade relationships.

This year marked WA’s fourth participation in​ the CIIE, ⁤which drew over 450,000 domestic ⁢and international buyers.​ China ⁤remains‍ WA’s largest agrifood, fisheries, and forestry market, with exports valued at $3.14 billion in 2024-25.

“WA received​ a great reception from international buyers,who ‌were ⁢particularly‌ interested in our​ premium packaged ‌goods offerings and seafood,”‌ said ⁤DPIRD primary industries‍ trade manager Joan Lim. “The ChinaInternational​ Import Expo ​has once again demonstrated how vital this market is​ for us ⁢to tell our provenance story, build ​relationships with potential customers and lay the‌ foundations to export ‍growth.”

the expo ​was particularly ‍significant as it was‍ WA’s first⁢ exhibition in‌ China following⁤ the lifting of trade restrictions on wine and lobster – products that garnered considerable attention from CIIE visitors.

The ​CIIE is ⁣one of several trade exhibition initiatives supported ⁣by ⁣DPIRD⁤ this year, alongside participation ‌in HOFEX ​Hong Kong, Food and Hotel Asia⁣ Singapore, ‍FOODEX Japan, and Gulfood⁤ UAE, all aimed ⁤at promoting‍ WA businesses internationally.
