Football Fans From Erfurt Attack Police Near Berlin
Drelinden, Germany – A contingent of football fans from Erfurt physically attacked police officers while being intercepted on a former rest area along the A11 motorway, approximately ten kilometers from Berlin, on Friday evening. The incident occurred as authorities moved to prevent the group from reaching a regional league match.
Police were alerted to the approaching fan buses adn initially intercepted them at the Drelinden rest area. Recognizing the potential for violence, the motorway police requested backup from both Brandenburg and berlin law enforcement. Before reinforcements arrived, the fans reportedly launched a physical assault on the responding officers.
Authorities are now investigating the incident as suspected aggravated assault, assault on law enforcement, and a serious disturbance of public order, according to police spokesperson Nath.The regional league game commenced at 7 p.m. local time.
