Valdezcaray, Spain – August 31, 2025 – Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) powered to his second stage victory at the Vuelta a España today, launching a decisive attack 9km from the summit of the Estación de Esquí de Valdezcaray. The win considerably narrows the gap between Vingegaard and race leader Torstein Træen, setting the stage for a thrilling second half of the race.

Vingegaard’s aggressive ride marks a shift in strategy for the Danish rider, who had previously adopted a more cautious approach.His victory,secured with a 24-second advantage over his rivals,propels him into contention for the overall lead as the peloton heads into Monday’s rest day. Træen remains in the red jersey, but his lead has been reduced to just 37 seconds.

The stage saw Vingegaard initially benefit from an acceleration set by teammate Matteo Jorgenson before forging ahead on his own. Giulio ciccone (Lidl-Trek) attempted to respond but was unable to maintain the pace. A close battle for second place unfolded between João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and Tom Pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling), with Pidcock ultimately outsprinting Almeida.

Træen finished with a chase group, 1:46 behind Vingegaard. The race will resume after the rest day, with Vingegaard poised to continue his pursuit of the overall lead.Full race report available here.
