Vietnamese Badminton Team Prepares for World Championship & SEA Games
The Vietnamese badminton team is gearing up for the upcoming World Championship, aiming to secure qualification for the 2025 tournament through participation in numerous international events to improve player rankings. The team received professional support from Indonesian expert Hariawan Hong during their recent trip to France for a tournament.
According to Khoa Trung Kien, head of the badminton department of the vietnamese sports administration, the high level of competition at the World Championship – featuring all top players – presents a notable challenge. Though, the tournament also serves as crucial preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, scheduled to be held in Thailand in December. the Vietnamese players have analyzed the tournament draw adn are focused on performing to the best of their ability.
Hopes Rest on Nguyen Thuy Linh
Nguyen Thuy Linh, currently ranked 22nd globally, is considered VietnamS primary hope for success at the World Championship.she was not seeded in the women’s singles draw and will face Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand (ranked 10th in the world) in her opening match. Intanon, a 2013 world champion, has also claimed gold medals at the Asian and Southeast Asian Games.
While a challenging opponent,Linh has previously defeated Intanon,winning 0-2 (13/21,15/21) at the german Open last year.Her recent consistent performance suggests a potential repeat victory, which would advance her in the women’s singles competition.Linh’s goal is to match the best-ever result achieved by a Vietnamese badminton player at the world Championship – the bronze medal won by nguyen Tien Minh in the men’s singles in 2013.
Other Vietnamese players will also be in action. Vu Thi Trang (world ranking 170) will compete against Kantemyr of Ukraine (world ranking 120) in the first round, presenting a favorable opportunity for advancement.
In the men’s singles, Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 57th) will face Indonesian talent Alwi Farhan (ranked 23rd), while Le Duc Phat (ranked 69th) will play against Julien Carraggi of Belgium (ranked 59th), giving Phat a possibly higher chance of winning.
The men’s doubles team of Tran Dinh Manh and Nguyen Dinh Hoang, recent champions of the Vietnam International Challenge and currently ranked 126th in the world, will make their world Championship debut.
