Vietnamese Badminton Players Advance to Quarterfinals at Vietnam Open 2025
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – Nguyen Thuy Linh and Nguyen Hai dang both secured victories today, September 11th, propelling them into the quarterfinals of the Vietnam Open 2025 badminton competition. The BWF Tour Super 100 event, boasting a $110,000 prize pool, is being held in Ho Chi Minh City from September 9th to 14th.
The success of Linh and Dang marks a strong showing for Vietnam on home soil, raising hopes for further advancement in the tournament. Their progression to the quarterfinals signifies a potential chance to challenge higher-ranked international players and gain valuable experience on the world stage. The Vietnam Open provides a crucial platform for Vietnamese athletes to improve their world rankings and prepare for future competitions, including potential Olympic qualification.
Thuy Linh, currently ranked 18th globally, overcame a challenging match against Malaysia’s Kisona Selbadurai (world ranking 77th). Despite losing the first set 21-14, Linh rallied to win the next two sets 21-12 and 21-10, ultimately securing a 2-1 victory. She will now face Thailand’s Nitty Cray (80th in the world) in the quarterfinals.
Simultaneously occurring, Nguyen Hai Dang delivered a comeback performance, defeating India’s Mithun Manjunath 2-1 (12-21, 21-17, 21-18).Dang is now the sole remaining Vietnamese male player in the men’s singles competition and will next compete against China’s Wang Tsujun (ranked 159th).
