Vidi Aldiano’s Estate Wins Initial Rounds in Copyright Lawsuit, Faces Cassation

Jakarta – The legal battle over the song “Nuansa Bening” continues, with a planned appeal to the Indonesian Supreme Court despite the recent passing of singer Vidi Aldiano, according to a statement from his legal counsel.

Yakup Hasibuan, representing the estate of Vidi Aldiano and Harry Kiss, Vidi’s father, stated that they had previously won three separate rulings in the Jakarta Central Niaga Court on November 19, 2025. These rulings deemed the claims brought by Keenan Nasution legally inadmissible due to procedural flaws. “This proves that their claims are unfounded and do not align with the existing legal facts,” Yakup said in a message to reporters.

The lawsuit, filed by Nasution and Rudi Pekerti, alleges that Aldiano commercially exploited and distributed “Nuansa Bening” without permission. The initial complaint, case number 51/Pdt.Sus-HKI/Cipta/2025/PN Niaga Jkt.Pst, accused Aldiano of performing the song in 31 unauthorized shows. The plaintiffs initially sought Rp24.5 billion in damages and proposed seizing Aldiano’s Jakarta residence as collateral.

Despite Aldiano’s death on March 7, 2026, Keenan Nasution is pressing forward with the case, arguing that civil lawsuits do not abate with the death of a defendant. His legal counsel, Minola Sebayang, confirmed the intention to proceed with the appeal to the Supreme Court, seeking Rp28.4 billion in damages, as reported by Medcom.id on March 19, 2026.

Yakup Hasibuan acknowledged Nasution’s right to appeal but expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would reject the claim. He characterized the lawsuit as “baseless, fabricated, and not in accordance with the existing legal facts.” He further cited a 2025 Constitutional Court ruling (Number 28/2025) which clarified that the responsibility for paying royalties lies with event organizers, not the performers themselves.

“We, as legal counsel for the late Vidi Aldiano and Mr. Harry Kiss, will continue to monitor this case to ensure justice is served,” Yakup stated. “We ask for prayers for the family of the deceased to be given health, strength, and comfort.”

The case remains ongoing at the Supreme Court.
