Suspect Falls Through Ceiling, Directly Into Custody of Florida SWAT Team
Indian River County, FL – Dramatic body camera footage released by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday details the arrest of a suspect who inadvertently surrendered to SWAT officers by falling through a ceiling.
The incident began when a license plate reader identified a stolen pickup truck, according to the Sheriff’s Office. investigators subsequently steadfast that the suspect, 37-year-old Keith Rodgers, had used the stolen vehicle to purchase lumber at a local Home Depot.
Upon locating the truck parked outside a residence, officers observed Rodgers unloading the lumber. When he noticed law enforcement, Rodgers fled inside the home and barricaded himself within, reportedly hiding in the attic. SWAT teams and crisis negotiators were dispatched to the scene.
After several hours, while SWAT officers were inside the residence, Rodgers fell through the ceiling, landing directly into the arms of awaiting officers. The released video captures the moment of the fall and subsequent apprehension.
Rodgers is currently facing charges including grand theft auto and resisting an officer without violence, as stated by the indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
