Yirmar Martínez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan asylum seeker and Amazon Flex delivery driver, was shot twice in the back and head while delivering a package at a semirural home in Dallas, Texas, before managing to drive away for help.

The shooting happened between 4:30 and 5:00 in the morning on October 12 in the Cedar Hill area of Dallas, according to local media reports. Martínez, originally from Caracas and the mother of a five-year-old boy, had arrived at the residential property to begin her delivery shift when the property owner opened fire.

How the Shooting Unfolded in Dallas

Martínez was already on the property to drop off a package when the homeowner noticed her presence, as detailed by the digital news outlet Utahzolanos and cited by eldiario.com. The property owner discharged a firearm without apparent cause.

In an interview with journalist Yesmani Gómez reported by eldiario.com, Martínez stated that the man who shot at her was standing right at the delivery location. When the homeowner aimed his weapon at her, Martínez tried to flee while the gunman continued firing. A bullet struck her in the back, and a second projectile grazed her head.

Despite her injuries, the driver managed to return to her vehicle and drive away from the property to seek assistance. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery performed by her personal physician.

Family Demands Justice as Victim Undergoes Emergency Surgery

Karina Martínez, the victim’s mother, learned of the attack through a phone call. The news left her in a state of shock, prompting her to travel immediately to the medical center where her daughter was admitted for emergency surgical intervention.

The family has demanded justice for the violent assault against the young worker. Relatives are calling on local authorities to thoroughly clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the appropriate legal responsibilities for the homeowner.

Public confirmations regarding the precise motive for the armed attack remain unreleased. Local police continue to hold the victim’s car while forensic and criminal investigations proceed.
