U.S. ⁤Immigration Raids Target‌ Hyundai-LG Factory, Hundreds Arrested

Atlanta, GA -‌ U.S. authorities have ‌conducted raids at⁣ a Hyundai-LG automotive battery factory in Georgia, resulting in the arrest‍ of hundreds of individuals suspected of immigration⁢ violations. The operation, ⁤carried out by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI),‍ underscores a commitment to protecting American ⁤jobs and ensuring fair labor‌ practices, officials said.

The ⁣raids targeted workers employed by subcontractors at the factory in ⁤Bryan County, Georgia.⁤ according⁤ to ⁣Steven Schrank, a special agent‌ with HSI, some detainees had⁤ illegally crossed U.S. borders, others entered with work permits, and still others remained ⁤in the country after their work visas expired. The arrests ⁣have raised concerns in Seoul, with ⁢the South Korean government demanding fair treatment of its citizens and ‌expressing anxieties about the impact ⁢on investor confidence.

“this action underlines our commitment‌ to protecting jobs for Georgians and Americans, ensuring a level playing field for ⁢law-abiding businesses, maintaining economic integrity⁣ and protecting employees from⁤ exploitation,”‍ Schrank stated. The ‍timing ⁤of the raids comes⁣ amid heightened scrutiny of ‍labor practices⁢ and immigration enforcement under the current ⁤governance. The ‍incident also highlights the complex supply chains involved in the rapidly ⁣growing electric ‍vehicle battery industry, and the‌ potential ‍for vulnerabilities related‌ to worker status.
