authorities are digging deeper into the recent attack on presidential hopeful and senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. The weapon used in the crime has been traced back to a legal purchase in the United States.
Weapon’s Origin Discovered
The Prosecutor General’s office and police investigators have released crucial information regarding the shooting of presidential senator Miguel Uribe Turbay in Bogotá’s Modelia neighborhood. The firearm was identified as a 9mm Glock pistol, initially bought legally in Arizona on August 6, 2020.
According to General Carlos Fernando Triana, head of the National Police, a uniprocedence examination successfully traced the gun’s history. The investigation is now focused on how the weapon entered Colombia and whether it had been previously used in other crimes.
Hunt for accomplices
“The number one objective is to identify the sicarial network that would have contacted the minor as material executor,”
stated Fiscal General Luz Adriana camargo. She added that ballistic tests are underway to see if the same weapon connects to other similar attacks.
The Prosecutor’s Office and the Police have reviewed over 1,000 security camera videos and conducted 23 interviews. Those interviewed include attendees of Saturday’s political gathering, relatives of the involved minor, and members of Uribe’s security detail.
Investigating the Senator’s Movements
Investigators are also retracing the senator’s movements on the day of the attack to determine if he was being followed. the minor apprehended for shooting at the senator was formally charged with attempted homicide and illegal weapons possession early monday.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that the young suspect would be held in a special facility under the protection of the investigating body,adhering to protocols for minors.
