Severe Weather Devastates St. Louis: Four Dead, Millions Under Alert
A powerful weather system slammed into the St. Louis metropolitan area on Friday,leaving a trail of destruction and prompting widespread emergency responses. The severe event resulted in at least four confirmed fatalities and numerous injuries. More than 146 million people across the region were under meteorological alerts as the storm unfolded.

St. Louis found itself under a state of maximum alert as a supercell storm – a type known for producing tornadoes and large hail – triggered a rare warning. The National Weather Service (NWS) classified the situation as a “Particularly dangerous situation,”

Widespread Damage and Power Outages
The storm unleashed strong winds that toppled trees and power lines, plunging over 100,000 consumers into darkness during peak hours. The most meaningful damage was concentrated in the western and northern parts of the city, potentially indicating the path of a tornado.

While videos captured low clouds and rotation at the storm’s base, heavy rain obscured direct views of any potential funnel cloud.
Hospitals and public Services Affected
The St. Louis Children’s Hospital reported admitting at least 10 injured individuals, with one in critical condition. The storm also impacted the area surrounding the city’s zoo, but all visitors and animals were safely secured. The zoo will remain closed until damage assessments and cleanup efforts are completed.
St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer confirmed the fatalities at a late-afternoon news conference,stating that four deaths
were related to the extreme weather event. Details about the victims have not yet been released.
Hail and Ongoing Investigations
Along with the tornado risk, the storm produced large hailstones, with reports of stones up to 7 centimeters in diameter, according to the State Emergency Management Agency of Missouri.
The national Weather Service has dispatched a technical team to investigate whether a tornado touched down. Their assessment will provide crucial information for understanding the storm’s intensity and path.
