WVU Medicine has expanded its urgent care services in Greene County, opening a new location adjacent to its waynesburg clinic. A spokesperson stated that the new facility has been seeing dozens of patients daily since its opening several weeks ago, expressing honor in serving the community with this additional service.
The acquisition of MedExpress centers by the UPMC-GoHealth partnership was announced last October. MedExpress, founded in Morgantown in 2001, was acquired by Optum, a subsidiary of United Health Group, in 2015, at which point it operated 141 centers across 11 states.The UPMC-GoHealth partnership plans to acquire MedExpress locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.
In August 2023, The Dominion Post reported that MedExpress was eliminating all registered nursing positions at its medical centers. When asked if UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care centers would employ registered nurses, a UPMC representative confirmed they would not. However, the representative added that UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care has retained existing staff and is actively hiring more personnel.
UPMC is a large healthcare provider with over 40 hospitals and 800 outpatient sites in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland, as well as international operations. UPMC Insurance Services provides coverage to more than 4 million members.
GoHealth specializes in partnering with health systems to streamline patient access to high-quality care for non-life-threatening conditions. Their on-demand care platform supports 12 health system partners across 16 states, operating approximately 400 co-branded neighborhood centers.
