Ukraine Thwarts Russian Offensive Plans, Inflicts Heavy Casualties as Drone Strikes Deepen into Russia

Kyiv, Ukraine – September 10, 2025 – Ukrainian forces successfully disrupted enterprising Russian plans to achieve a strategic breakthrough and encircle troops near Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad, while concurrently hindering large-scale offensive operations planned for the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia sectors, according to Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi. The failed Russian push has prompted a redeployment of marine units from Zaporizhzhia to the Donetsk region.

The thwarted offensive comes amid escalating tensions following recent incidents of Russian drones entering Polish airspace, a clear demonstration of NATO resolve and a direct message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. These events underscore the widening scope of the conflict and the potential for regional escalation, as allies reaffirm their commitment to collective defense.

syrskyi detailed that despite intensive efforts throughout August, russian forces achieved minimal territorial gains – the smallest advances in the past year.while advancing toward Dobropillya, Russian troops captured 13.5 square kilometers of territory, but subsequently lost control of 25.5 square kilometers. Similarly, near Pokrovsk, they gained 5 square kilometers, only to have Ukrainian forces reclaim 26 square kilometers. No territorial losses were reported in the Huliaipil and Prydniprovskyi directions, and Ukrainian troops even regained 4 square kilometers in the Pivnichno-Slobozhanske direction.

Beyond the battlefield, Ukraine intensified long-range strikes within Russia using “Deep Strike” capabilities. These attacks targeted 60 objectives, weakening Russia’s capacity to produce essential military supplies, including fuel, lubricants, aviation weaponry, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as disrupting critical transportation networks.

ukrainian drones engaged over 67,000 enemy targets throughout August. Russian casualties for the month reached 28,790 personnel, bringing the total number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded since the beginning of 2025 to 297,350, Syrskyi reported.

The ongoing conflict, now in its third year, has displaced millions of Ukrainians and caused widespread destruction. The recent Ukrainian successes and intensified strikes within Russia signal a shift in momentum, though the long-term trajectory of the war remains uncertain. continued international support for Ukraine will be crucial in sustaining its defense and potentially achieving a negotiated settlement.
