Ukraine Claims Destruction of Russian Helicopter in Drone Strike
Kyiv,Ukraine – Ukrainian forces claim to have destroyed a Russian MI-8 helicopter using a drone, marking a perhaps significant success in their ongoing counteroffensive. The reported strike, if confirmed, represents a substantial financial blow to Russia, with the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces estimating the helicopter’s value at a minimum of $6 million. This follows a similar prosperous drone strike against a Russian target in May.
The incident remains unconfirmed by self-reliant sources and has not been addressed by russian officials. However, the Ukrainian drone troops commander, Robert Browdi, released video footage purportedly documenting the operation. The video shows the helicopter from a close drone perspective, followed by a distant view of an explosion and subsequent crash. Browdi has not commented on the fate of the helicopter’s crew.
The successful operation underscores Ukraine’s growing capabilities in unmanned aerial warfare and its increasing reliance on drone technology to challenge Russian military assets. The destruction of a high-value asset like an MI-8 helicopter could impact Russia’s logistical and transport capabilities in the region, potentially hindering troop movements and supply lines.
