Udaipur Celebrates World Pharmacists Day, Honors 250 Professionals
Udaipur, Rajasthan - Over 250 pharmacists were recognized for their vital contributions to healthcare at a ceremony held Tuesday at the IT Auditorium in Pratapnagar, co-hosted by Rajasthan University and the Rajasthan Pharmacist Employees Association. The event marked World Pharmacists Day, an annual observance initiated by the International Pharmaceutical Federation in 2000.
The ceremony commenced wiht tributes to Maa Saraswati and featured the presentation of shawls and certificates of thankfulness to the honored pharmacists. Speakers emphasized the critical, often overlooked, role pharmacists play in patient safety and effective healthcare delivery.
Rajasthan University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shivsingh Sarangdevot underscored the pharmacist’s position as a crucial link between physicians and patients,noting that medication errors contribute to over one lakh deaths annually. “While doctors prescribe medicines, pharmacists ensure correct dosage, timing, and patient guidance, making them essential to healthcare delivery,” he stated. This year’s World Pharmacists Day theme centered on fostering trust in pharmacist-provided health services. Prof. Sarangdevot also highlighted the profession’s demonstrated importance during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the supply of critical resources like oxygen and Remdesivir.
Dr.Vipin Mathur, Principal of RNT College, described pharmacy as a profession demanding “science, service, and sensitivity,” stressing the importance of clear dialogue with patients regarding medication usage. He explained that a responsible pharmacist ensures patient safety through comprehensive guidance on dosage, timing, and quantity.
Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. S.L. Bamnia and other dignitaries lauded pharmacists’ dedication and increasing responsibilities, particularly in light of government initiatives like free medicine distribution programs.
Attendees included Prof. Manju Mandot, Dr.Gaurang Trivedi, Dr. Gajendra Singh Rathore, Dr. Kirti Rathore, Dr. Bharat Singh Devda, and over 100 pharmacists representing both the public and private sectors. Dr. Harish Chaubisa served as the program’s emcee, and Vijendra Singh rathore delivered the vote of thanks.
