STORRS, Conn.- The UConn Women’s Ice Hockey program has announced its incoming class of 2029, a group of four talented players poised to bolster the Huskies‘ roster. The newest additions – Riley Grimley,Callie McLean,Leila ricciuti,and True Thompson - represent a diverse range of experience and skill,hailing from both the United States and Canada.
This incoming class arrives as the Huskies continue to build a competitive program within the Hockey East conference. Head Coach Brianne Urquhart and her staff have focused on recruiting players who not only possess high-level hockey abilities but also demonstrate academic commitment and character. The Class of 2029 embodies these qualities, bringing a blend of offensive prowess, defensive strength, and championship experience to Storrs.
Riley grimley, a forward from Eagleville, Pennsylvania, joins UConn after attending Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford. Grimley played for the Jr. Flyers Tier 1 in the 2024-25 season, serving as team captain and totaling 45 points in 44 games. A consistent performer, she is a four-time MAWA league Champion and four-time USA Atlantic District Champion, and has participated in USA Hockey Regional and National Camps, earning a national medal with USA Hockey.
Callie McLean, a forward from Ottawa, Ontario, canada, attended John McCrae Second School. McLean played for the Ottawa Jr. Lady Senators and was a OWHA U-22 Elite Provincial Silver Medalist in 2025. In 2024, she served as an assistant team captain for Team Ontario Blue Women’s U-18, leading them to a National Championship. mclean is a two-time OWHA U-18 High Performance Advancement Camp invitee and will be studying Allied Health Science at UConn.
Leila Ricciuti, another forward from Manotick, Ontario, Canada, attended St. Mark’s High School, where she was a three-time MVP. Ricciuti played for Nepean Jr in the OWHL for the past three years, totaling 59 points in 64 games and serving as an assistant captain in her senior season.She is a two-time Provincials Champion and medaled at OFSAA three times, in addition to playing for Team Ontario Blue at Nationals.
Rounding out the class is true Thompson, a defenseman from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, who attended New Hampton School in New Hampton, New Hampshire. thompson led new Hampton to two Small School NEPSAC Championships and earned two All-NEPSAC selections, two Lakes Region All-Star honors, and two All-State selections. In two seasons, she scored 19 goals and tallied 54 assists, and was a two-time USA Hockey U-18 Selection Camp invitee.
