from Cannes to Monaco in Minutes: Uber Launches Luxury Helicopter Hops
Monaco – Uber is poised to redefine travel along the French Riviera, announcing plans to launch a premium helicopter transfer service as early as 2026.The initiative aims to bypass the region’s notorious traffic congestion, offering a rapid and exclusive transportation option between key destinations.
the service, enabled through a strategic partnership with Joby Aviation, will integrate seamlessly into the Uber app, allowing passengers to book short-haul flights connecting hubs such as Monaco, Nice, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez.This promises a streamlined, digitally-booked experience focused on speed and exclusivity.
Initially, the service will utilize conventional helicopters sourced from blade Air Mobility’s existing network. Uber views this as a crucial frist phase, laying the groundwork for the future integration of quieter and more environmentally friendly electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. A network of “vertiports” – dedicated landing facilities – is planned along the Côte d’Azur, stretching from Marseille to Monaco, with anticipated openings in 2026.These vertiports are being developed with support from UrbanV, Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, and Lilium.
Monaco, a frequent host to high-profile events and an international clientele, stands to benefit considerably from the service. Beyond offering a practical solution to transportation challenges during peak periods, the helicopter network is expected to showcase the principality’s commitment to innovation. Though, challenges remain. The cost of the service will be ample, and current helicopter technology presents noise and pollution concerns until the eVTOL fleet is operational. Navigating the complex airspace regulations within the region also presents a notable hurdle.
Despite these obstacles, if infrastructure growth and regulatory approvals proceed as planned, the French Riviera’s iconic coastline may soon be complemented by a dedicated and exclusive air corridor.
