UAE Summons Israeli Envoy Over Doha Attack and Netanyahu‘s Warning
The United Arab Emirates has summoned the Israeli Deputy Head of Mission, David Ohad Horsandi, to express it’s strong disapproval of Israel’s recent attack in Doha, Qatar, and subsequent remarks made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to a statement released by the Emirati foreign ministry, minister of state for international Cooperation, Reem bint ebrahim al Hashimy, delivered a firm message to Horsandi, stating that continued “opposed and provocative rhetoric solidifies a situation that is unacceptable and cannot be overlooked.”
The summoning follows a drone strike launched by Israel on Tuesday targeting Hamas leaders in Doha. While Hamas reported its senior officials survived, five of its members were killed in the attack. This action has drawn widespread international condemnation, particularly as Qatar has been actively mediating ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, alongside Egypt and the United States.
The situation escalated further when Prime Minister Netanyahu warned Qatar on Wednesday to either expel Hamas officials or “bring them to justice,” adding a direct threat if Qatar failed to comply.
The UAE, which normalized relations with Israel in 2020 through the Abraham Accords and maintains notable economic and defense ties with the country, has publicly demonstrated its support for Qatar. UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed expressed “full solidarity with our dear Qatar” on X.
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan was among the first leaders to visit Doha following the attack, and has also been coordinating with othre Gulf Arab nations to formulate a stronger response to the Israeli strike.
An emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic nations is scheduled to take place next week in Qatar to discuss the attack.
