UAE Summons Israeli Envoy‌ Over‌ Doha Attack and Netanyahu‘s Warning

The United Arab Emirates has summoned the Israeli Deputy Head of Mission, David Ohad Horsandi, to express it’s strong ⁢disapproval⁤ of ⁣Israel’s recent attack in Doha, Qatar, and ⁤subsequent remarks‌ made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to a statement released by the Emirati foreign ministry,⁣ minister of state for international⁣ Cooperation, Reem bint ‍ebrahim al Hashimy, delivered a ‍firm message to⁤ Horsandi, stating that continued “opposed and provocative rhetoric solidifies a situation that is unacceptable and cannot⁣ be overlooked.”

The summoning follows a drone strike launched by Israel⁣ on Tuesday targeting Hamas leaders in Doha. While Hamas‌ reported its senior officials survived, ‍five of ⁣its members were killed in ⁣the attack. This action ⁣has drawn widespread⁢ international condemnation, particularly as Qatar has been actively mediating ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, alongside Egypt⁣ and the United States.

The situation escalated further when Prime Minister Netanyahu ‌warned Qatar on Wednesday to either expel ⁣Hamas officials or “bring them to justice,” adding a direct threat if Qatar failed to comply.

The⁤ UAE,⁢ which normalized ⁤relations with Israel in 2020 through the Abraham Accords and maintains notable economic and defense ties with the country, has publicly demonstrated its support ⁤for Qatar. UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed expressed “full ⁤solidarity with our dear Qatar” on X.

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed⁢ bin Zayed al-Nahyan was ‌among ‍the first ⁣leaders to visit ⁣Doha following the attack, and has also been coordinating⁣ with othre Gulf Arab nations to formulate a stronger response⁢ to the⁢ Israeli strike.

An emergency ⁤meeting of Arab and Islamic nations is scheduled to take place next week in Qatar ⁢to discuss the⁣ attack.
