Two Months Post-Surgery: My Bali Escape & Husband’s Concerns

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

A South Korean actor, Park Jong-seok, underwent foot surgery in late September 2024, his wife, actress Wang Jiwon, revealed on Instagram October 23rd. The surgery addressed a condition where all of his toes were bent, according to Wang Jiwon’s post.

The post, accompanied by a video of Park Jong-seok in a hospital bed, indicated a quicker-than-expected recovery. “It’s been 3 weeks since the surgery and thankfully, the recovery is going well faster than I thought,” Wang Jiwon wrote. The couple is currently maintaining a close presence with each other during his recovery, described as “like a koala clinging to each other.”

The surgery comes amidst a period of increased medical tourism to Bali, Indonesia, with facilities like Siloam Hospitals in Denpasar receiving international patients. A blog post from 2022 details one traveler’s experience at Siloam Hospitals Denpasar for a separate ear issue, noting a total cost of 77.37 euros and a one-hour visit duration. Another blog post from 2024 references a couple undergoing cosmetic surgery in Ubud, Bali, highlighting the growing trend of medical procedures combined with travel.

While the specific details of Park Jong-seok’s surgery haven’t been disclosed, the incident underscores the potential for medical needs to arise during international travel. Travel insurance, as highlighted in a separate blog post concerning a surfing accident in Bali, is often crucial for covering medical expenses and related claims.
