The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Liam Walker, 17-year-old Maya Chen, and 15-year-old Noah Rodriguez, all residents of the nearby town of oakhaven. They were reportedly swimming together when they encountered difficulties.
“It’s a tragic loss for our community,” stated Police Chief David Miller during a press conference.“The Never Never River can be deceptively risky, with strong currents and unexpected depths. We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution when swimming in natural bodies of water.”
Search and rescue teams recovered the bodies of the three teenagers several hours after the initial reports. Paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the drownings.
local residents have expressed their grief and offered condolences to the families of the victims. A makeshift memorial has been established near the riverbank, with flowers and candles left in remembrance.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of water safety. Authorities recommend swimming only in designated areas with lifeguard supervision, and to always swim with a buddy. They also advise against swimming after consuming alcohol or drugs.
Counseling services are being offered to students at Oakhaven High School, where all three victims were enrolled. The school principal described the students as “bright, promising individuals” who will be deeply missed.
