New York, NYAnthony Carrigan, known for his role in HBO’s Barry, is stepping into the role of Calypso, the enigmatic mastermind behind the deadly vehicular combat tournament in the Peacock series Twisted Metal. carrigan’s portrayal of the antagonist, characterized by his signature long, silky hair, injects a palpable sense of impishness into the character, a quality that belies his malicious intentions.

Calypso, a recurring figure in the Twisted Metal video game franchise, serves as the organizer of the titular tournament. In the series, he is depicted as the shadowy entity orchestrating events in New San Francisco. His modus operandi involves bringing together desperate individuals to compete in a fight to the death, with the ultimate prize being the fulfillment of a single wish, nonetheless of its perceived impossibility. The series leaves open the question of weather Calypso possesses genuine supernatural abilities to grant these wishes or if his promises are merely a facade.

While Calypso is primarily known as the organizer and not a direct participant in the games, he was a playable driver in the 1999 title, Twisted Metal 4. In this particular installment, Sweet Tooth usurped Calypso’s role as tournament organizer, prompting Calypso to drive a nuclear missile launch truck in an effort to reclaim his dominion. Across the majority of the Twisted Metal games, Calypso appears in interstitial cutscenes, were he tempts participants with alluring promises that often culminate in darkly ironic twists on their desires. Despite his seemingly devilish nature, Calypso is not immortal, and various alternate endings in the games depict him facing retribution, frequently enough through torture or death.
