‘Fallout‘ TV Series Drives Nearly 500% Surge in Game Players, New Data reveals
Los Angeles, CA – The Amazon Prime Video series Fallout ignited a massive resurgence in the video game franchise, boosting monthly player counts by a staggering 491%, according to a new analysis from Ampere Analysis. The data demonstrates a significant impact of television adaptations on video game engagement, far exceeding the effect of film adaptations.
The surge in Fallout players is particularly notable given the last major release in the series,Fallout 76,launched in 2018. Ampere’s research indicates that 80% of the new Fallout players had never played a game in the series prior to the show’s spring 2024 premiere. This influx represents a renaissance for the franchise, with daily player numbers reportedly increasing sixfold, as stated by Todd howard.
Ampere Analysis found that, on average, television series based on video games lead to a 140% increase in player numbers. The Last of Us adaptation also proved prosperous, attracting over four million new players.Even adaptations that don’t achieve the same level of critical acclaim can still drive player engagement; the Devil May Cry anime adaptation resulted in a 358% increase in players.
With the second season of Fallout set to premiere on December 17th, and advancement of Fallout 5 reportedly being expedited by Microsoft, the continued synergy between the television series and the game franchise appears poised to further expand the Fallout universe’s reach. Todd Howard has indicated exploration of accelerated development timelines for future installments.
