An additional $4 billion will be allocated to 60 self-propelled howitzer systems and related equipment, with a further $1 billion earmarked for drones.
Trump stated earlier in the day that his administration would decide on weapons sales to Taiwan “pretty soon,” as his anticipated trip to China approaches. The timing of the announcement, just weeks before a planned visit to Beijing, signals a deliberate effort to strengthen Taiwan’s defense capabilities and potentially signal U.S. Resolve to China.

The U.S. Does not formally recognize Taiwan as an independent nation, but maintains unofficial relations and provides defensive arms.
