National Guard Soldier Sarah Beckstrom Dies Following Washington D.C. Shooting; Trump remarks Draw Scrutiny

A U.S. Army soldier, sarah Beckstrom, has died from injuries sustained in a shooting in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday,president Donald Trump announced during a Thanksgiving Day phone call with the military. Beckstrom, a member of the National Guard, began her service in June 2023.
“Sarah Beckstrom,a young,stunning and highly respected person…has passed away,” Trump stated. ”She is no longer with us. She is looking down on us right now. She was savagely attacked, now she is dead.”
during the call, Trump referred too the shooter as “a monster.” He then reportedly displayed a photograph depicting the chaotic scene of Afghans attempting to board a U.S. military aircraft during the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan in August 2021, stating, “here’s a photo, take a look at that plane.This is what happened under the Biden administration.”
The shooting occurred near the 17th Street and New York Avenue NW intersection.Another National Guard member was also injured in the incident. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
