Trump Announces Potential Breakthrough in Hostage Release and End to Gaza Conflict
WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump stated Friday, September 26, that “it seems that we have an agreement” that could lead to the return of hostages held by Hamas and a cessation of hostilities in Gaza. He made the proclamation briefly to journalists before departing for the Ryder Cup golf tournament in New York, offering no immediate details.
The statement arrives amid heightened diplomatic activity at the United Nations General Assembly, where a number of nations – including France - this week formally recognized the State of Palestine. While Trump reaffirmed his longstanding support for Israel, stating “I am, and I was on the side of Israel all my life,” he also indicated a desire to see the current conflict resolved, telling French president Emmanuel Macron, “but it is time to arrest this war.”
The United States is preparing to unveil a 21-point peace plan for the Middle East, intended to bring an end to the nearly two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, the proposal was delivered to officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan on Tuesday.
