Trump flies back to the US after whirlwind trip to Scotland

First Minister John Swinney described his meeting with US President Donald Trump as “very good adn courteous,” highlighting productive discussions on issues pertinent to Scotland.

Swinney noted Trump’s “deep affinity” and “warmth and empathy” towards Scotland, stating that the President was keenly interested in the matters raised concerning the nation. He characterized the engagement as a “very welcome chance to engage in dialog and to build a relationship.”

President Trump inaugurated a new 18-hole golf course at Menie before departing for Lossiemouth via the presidential helicopter, Marine Force One. His subsequent journey back to the United States was on Air Force One.

Upon his departure, Trump commented on his return to Washington D.C., stating his intention to “put out fires all over the world” and emphasizing that his work in preventing conflicts, having “stopped about five wars,” was “much more important than playing golf.”

The President’s visit necessitated a notable security operation across South Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire. This involved the deployment of numerous officers from various UK police forces to support Police scotland, alongside the implementation of road closures, diversions, and security checkpoints.

While hundreds of protesters convened in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, the President also received greetings from his supporters.

Donald Trump is scheduled to make a return visit to the UK in September for a state visit, during which he will be hosted by the King at Windsor Castle.
