Trump Demands Microsoft Fire Lisa Monaco, Former Deputy Attorney General
(Bloomberg) – Former President Donald Trump is calling for Microsoft Corp. to terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco, the company’s president of global affairs, citing national security concerns. The demand escalates a pattern of Trump targeting former government officials he views as political adversaries.
Trump has consistently criticized Monaco, who served as U.S.Deputy Attorney General under President Joe Biden, alleging she used her former position to pursue investigations into his conduct. In March,Trump revoked monaco’s security clearances and access to classified information. He reiterated that decision Friday, arguing Monaco’s role at Microsoft provides her access to “Highly Sensitive Information” and makes her a “menace to U.S. National Security,” notably given Microsoft’s government contracts.
“It is my opinion that Microsoft should instantly terminate the employment of Lisa Monaco,” trump stated.
Monaco’s appointment at Microsoft was announced in June. Microsoft has not yet responded to requests for comment.
The call for Monaco’s dismissal follows the Justice Department’s indictment of former FBI Director James Comey the previous day, highlighting Trump’s tendency to seek retribution against officials he believes have acted against him.
