Trump Advisor Claims ICE Presence Expected at Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Performance
A former Trump advisor is predicting a visible presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show featuring Bad Bunny, sparking controversy and raising concerns about the artist’s past criticisms of the former administration’s immigration policies. The claim, made by former Department of Homeland Security official Tom Homan, comes as Bad Bunny prepares to become the frist Spanish-language artist to headline the event.
The potential ICE presence adds a layer of political tension to the highly anticipated performance, particularly given Bad Bunny’s previous decision to halt U.S. concerts in 2022 in protest of the Trump administration’s mass deportations targeting Latinos. Homan’s assertion suggests a deliberate response to the artist’s outspoken views, potentially escalating a pre-existing conflict and drawing scrutiny to the intersection of entertainment, politics, and immigration enforcement.
Homan, speaking on a conservative radio program, stated he anticipates ICE will be present to “ensure the safety and security” of the event, but also implied it was a response to Bad Bunny’s past actions. “I wouldn’t be surprised if ICE had a very visible presence there,” Homan said. “He’s been very critical of ICE, very critical of the men and women who enforce the law.”
Bad Bunny previously explained his decision to pause U.S. performances, stating, “There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate – I’ve performed there many times… But there was the issue of – like, fucking ICE coudl be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
The declaration of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance already ignited backlash from some conservative circles.Despite the controversy, Bad Bunny remains one of the world’s most popular artists, and his halftime show is expected to reach a massive global audience. The potential involvement of ICE adds a new dimension to the event, raising questions about the politicization of entertainment and the potential for heightened security measures.
